WEEKEND 1 (06-07/08) West Side Story workshop with Clinton Stringer

In 2020, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker choreographed a new version of the American musical classic, West Side Story (directed by Ivo van Hove). In this intensive weekend workshop, we will explore how these worlds of contemporary dance and musical theatre can overlap and challenge each other. We will learn some of the basic material; see how the basic material is transformed to respond to the Bernstein score (in America); work with the material from Cool where each dancer will make wild, explosive transformations; and explore how other dance styles (street dance and Latin) could be included in a contemporary dance context.
