Pilates with Chloe Chignell

'Deep Forms' is a movement and body training class. Starting with techniques and exercises from pilates, we blend dance and somatic practice. The class focuses on gaining greater articulation of the body through building specificity and clarity. We will build strength and find release as we work through particular muscle groups and joints with targeted exercises. We will work towards increasing our range of movement by physically understanding the shape of our joints. We focus on the initiation of movement through deeper muscle engagement.

Performance tools for dancers with Jos Baker

What makes a performer interesting to watch? What stands in our way from developing stronger stage presence? How can we practice performance?
These questions are essential to working in the performing arts; but answers to these questions do not come easy and are never definitive or concrete.
There are however, concrete and tangible ways to investigate the questions, that investigation is what this workshop tackle. Gaining awareness of the signals we unconsciously give out as performers and to sharpen the eye to observe the signals that other performers give out. Investigating what makes us empathise with a performer, or respect them, or dislike them, or trust them. How can we move in a way that gives an observer a physical sensation, or an emotional experience?
Throughout his career, Jos Baker has been looking for answers; both in his own work and also in observing and learning from others. In this workshop he will share the insights he has learned from this process, provide specific methods for developing a broader performative pallet, and guide an investigation which leaves space for everyone’s subjective taste.

Contemporary technique class with Laura Aris Álvarez

This is a contemporary dance class that overviews some fundamental aspects of contemporary dance techniques such as weight transfer, use of space, breathing, speed, qualities and textures. Furthermore, we will look at the intentions behind the movement.
Different exercises, guided improvisations, and specific tasks will help participants access their intuition and instinctive movement. I offer tools to enhance fluidity and freedom in one's own dance to recycle and save energy. I often use metaphors and images to create new kinaesthetic experiences and improve awareness in a constant search for mental, physical and emotional balance.
