Melkorka Sigríður Magnúsdóttir studied choreography at SNDO (School
for New Dance Development) in Amsterdam, and contemporary dance at
P.A.R.T.S in Brussels 2006-2010. She is a member of Samsteypan
Collective, an Icelandic performance group active since 2005. Melkorka
has made and choreographed various performances in Iceland and abroad
and taught classical ballet at the Icelandic Art University. She
worked with the Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus (UltimaVez)
2010-2011 and toured with one of his performances Radical Wrong.
Melkorka choreographed dance and stage movements in the Priest’s Black
Dog a theater piece that premiered at the National Theater of Iceland
in September 2011 and got five nominations for the Icelandic theater
awards.
  
An on going fascination through her work is combining live music and
dance on stage. The Jukebox, a performance concert was premiered at
the Reykjavik Arts Festival 2012. Melkorka is also a member of John
the Houseband, a performance band that dances concerts and sings
choreographies. John has performed in various venues, such as
Tanznacht Berlin, HetVeem Theater Amsterdam, WTP Brussels, Short
Theater Festival Rome, Dansstationen Malmö and latest Gessneralle
Zurich. Melkorka sings, plays a banjolele and a synthesizer.
