PARTS 2009 - 2010
|
posted 31-8-2009
On September 1st, PARTS starts its new school year. 32 students of the Training Cycle and 24 students of the Research Cycle start the last year of their program, guided by both well-known and new teachers.
For the students in the Training Cycle, the 2nd year is the year of the creation of a duet and a solo and a very intensive workshop of Rosas repertoire. Next to this, they will have workshops of theatre, Forsythe repertoire, theory, composition and music, next to the continuation of their training programme.
The students of the Research Cycle prepare their graduation work. For 12 weeks, they will work on a recreation of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s Drumming or develop their own creations. There will also be the creation of new work for the students by Thomas Hauert, Salva Sanchis and John Jasperse. In May and June 2010, they will show their graduation work in an international tour.
This year, some special projects will take place. PARTS and Les Brigittines initiated the marathon improvisation project 2dance4hours, in the framework of the Brxlbravo festival in October. There is also danceXmusic in March, organised with De Munt and Ars Musica. More information on these projects can be found elsewhere on this page.
From January onwards, we start a series of auditions throughout Europe, for candidates who will start their education in PARTS in september 2010.
The year promises to be very intensive for everybody involved!

Open Fridays for candidate students
|
On several Fridays throughout the school year, PARTS opens its doors for young dancers who are interested in participating in the auditions. On such days, you can observe the students and teachers in their daily work and get information about the school and the auditions. It is not possible to participate in the classes. Several open classes for dansers outside PARTS are organised throughout the year (check the website for dates).
The number of visitors is limited per day, so you need to register beforehand. We expect you to come alone.
Candidates who live in Belgium are asked to visit the school during the Open House day in January.
An open Friday starts at 9h30 with a short introduction. Until 12h50 you can observe technique classes (ballet and contemporary) with the Training Cycle (occasionaly with Research Cycle). Before 9.30 there is a yoga class, this class is not open for visitors. Staying for the afternoon workshops will only be possible occasionally, and communicated at short notice to those who have registered for a certain day.

Support for Départs 2009-2014
|
posted 7-4-2009
In 2001, PARTS set up the Départs network, a collaboration with a series of European institutions which aims to give scholarships to PARTS students and to support the former students in their professional work by offering residencies, coaching, presentations and co-productions. The European Commission supported the network several times in its Culture 2000 program.
In the meantime, the network has grown to eleven partners, from Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. The European Commision has recently decided to support a new project of the network, for a period of five years.
PARTS will thus be able to continue to support its students who cannot pay all the costs for studying in Brussels and can remain a democratic and diverse school. Through the partners in the network, the school continues to support its former students. The other partners also organise pedagogical initiatives and support the participants of these by awarding scholarships and supporting the professional work of former students of these activities.

Book publication: P.A.R.TS. - Documenting ten years of contemporary dance education
|
posted 15/12/2007
In September 1995, the Performing Arts Research and Training Studios (P.A.R.T.S.) opened their doors in Brussels. It was the result of a dream shared by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (Rosas) and Bernard Foccroulle (De Munt/La Monnaie), a dream for an international school for contemporary dance that responded to the breakthroughs and challenges of the still-young contemporary dance scene in Belgium.
This book celebrates the 10th anniversary of PARTS. Teachers, students, former students and outsiders remember, recount and reflect on different aspects of the school: its mission, its program, its daily experience, its impact and its relation to the world. An extensive photo collection gives a view on students and teachers at work. The book finishes with an archive of facts and figures relating to 10 years of PARTS.
Edited by Steven De Belder and Theo Van Rompay

R.I.P. Pina Bausch (1940-2009)

|
PARTS mourns the passing away of dancer and choreographer Pina Bausch. The very special work of Pina Bausch has always been a source of inspiration to Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. In 1994, she was one of the people with whom Anne Teresa extensively discussed the artistic-pedagogical project of the new dance school she was setting up. Pina's advice was very important for the concrete articulation of our curriculum. Dominique Duszynski, former dancer of the Tanztheater Wuppertal, has been teaching at PARTS for fourteen years. We were all very proud when last year Pina Bausch invited Ales Cucek, who has just graduated from PARTS, to join her company. For students, teachers and staff of the school she will always remain an important source of inspiration, as someone who has had an unerasable influence on contemporary dance.
Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker says about Pina Bausch: "She was really the greatest choreographer of her time. To me her death feels so unreal, because she was my sister, my mother, my teacher. The way she could speak about the human being through dance was really unique. She shows us in all our beauty as well as in all our weakness, but always with so much love. She also spoke about our hunger for love. She showed the weakness of man with a lot of humour. Her dance theatre was very recognizable and accessible, but she never fled into simplistic ideas. She had a deep insight and love for man in all his aspects."
Our thoughts are with the family of Pina Bausch and with the dancers and collaborators of the Tanztheater Wuppertal.
